Light for the Bight is a free, family friendly, Nature Festival celebration to support World Heritage protection for the Nullarbor and Great Australian Bight. The Mirning Traditional Custodians will bring this spectacular twilight lantern parade of the Jeedara Creation story to life in Semaphore, by permission of the Kaurna Elders.
Join us on Semaphore Foreshore as we wait for the sun to set and for the magnificent lanterns to commence their spectacular parade from the jetty to the reserve and then on to the beach.
You can immerse yourself in the celebration by bringing along a diamond shaped lantern with you to enhance the main theatrical display which will consist of lanterns in the shape of amazing creatures from the Nullarbor and Bight. Please use LED candle lights instead of real flame for safety reasons.
The Great Australian Bight is a truly special place that deserves World Heritage status, not only to protect this precious natural wonder but to honour the internationally-recognised rights of the First Nations communities who remain strongly connected to this sacred place.
We hope you'll support World Heritage listing for the Great Australian Bight after this visually spectacular and culturally rich experience.
If you would like to learn how to make a Mirning star (diamond shaped) lantern to bring along to Light for the Bight, there are two family-friendly workshops being held by the Adelaide Sustainability Centre on Sunday 8th October at The Joinery. You can book in here.
Wheel-chair access is available on to Semaphore Foreshore and Jetty.
There's limited parking near Semaphore Reserve, we encourage you to get public transport or car-pool where possible.
Please don’t print your tickets.
