What to Expect:
Masks have played a key role in the ceremonies and rituals of humankind almost since the beginning of time itself. Whether worn for disguise, protection, entertainment or performance, masks have been a staple part of the cultural development of people all around the world! In this workshop we will create a self-portrait mask inspired by the nature around us and our connection to it.
Materials:
Some natural materials will be provided for this workshop, but please bring participants any materials that mean something to you - perhaps from a place that’s special to you. Think, leaves, small twigs, pressed flowers, crystals or rocks etc.
Oakey is an emerging contemporary artist based in Adelaide who creates sculptural and installation works. Working out of George St Studios, she uses a range of materials, creating works for both gallery spaces and the public art realm.
Oakey’s experiences of being fully immersed in an array of natural environments has created a deep fascination in the interconnectedness of the living world and our relationship to it. She participated in last year’s Nature Festival at Thomas Hill House in Cudlee Creek and gained insight in to this incredible area of Peramangk country.
Appropriate for all ages. Children under 15 to be accompanied by an adult.
