How many items lurking in your cupboards either contain fungi or additives made by fungi?
Stop by the State Herbarium, peer into the window and explore the fungi cabinet! Discover some of the unexpected uses for fungi in our everyday lives. Learn about some of the foods and household goods that contain actual fungi or additives made by fungi that may be lurking in your cupboards!
How many items can you list BEFORE looking in the cabinet?
How many will you be able to find in your own home?
The main cabinet is divided into different areas of the home: kitchen (breakfast), dining (lunch), bedroom, bathroom & laundry, and ‘garden/outdoors’. In each space are examples of items that are fungal derived (and various models to set the scene). Some items are numbered, and you can read linked explanatory text in the bookcase.
This exhibition will be viewable throughout Nature Festival, make your way to the State Herbarium Foyer window to enjoy and explore fungi in a different way.
