Wittunga Botanic Garden: From a ‘Home’ to a botanic garden
Wittunga meaning ‘beside water’, was the dream home of the Ashby Family. It was plant collector's garden and run as a farm and orchard. Moreover, the Ashby family bequeathed it to the Botanic Gardens.
This suburban oasis showcases plants from South Africa and southern Australia, able to cope with less water. It is home to a large variety of bird and animal life that are attracted to the flora. Recent additions include a nature play space, a lake beach area and viewing platforms.
