A rare opportunity to explore privately owned and protected natural areas on the Fleurieu Peninsula near Yundi and learn identification skills from expert bird watchers (both sessions) and bat scientists (evening only). This event is being hosted by members of the Fleurieu Swamps Restoration Network, a collective of landholders who are collaborating to manage and restore critically endangered Fleurieu Peninsula Swamps and related habitats on their properties. Learn about the ecosystem services from swamp birds and bats and how those services support grazing enterprises, market access, and farm resilience.
Tickets can be purchased for either a morning session (7:30am) or an evening session (5:00pm). Ticket holders will be assigned to one of three properties in the vicinity of Yundi for a bird watching walk and tour before gathering at Yundi Nature Conservancy for brunch/supper and a talk from experts around the fire pit. We will discuss the ecosystem services that birds and bats in bogs provide.
Long pants and closed-toed sturdy footwear you don’t mind getting wet and muddy is essential. Wear layers for warmth.
This event is not recommended for young children due to the patience and silence required to observe birds in the wild. Children 8 and over are permitted at parent's discretion.
A reasonable level of fitness is required - terrain may be steep or uneven - Please let us know if you would like to be placed in the group attending a property with mostly flat terrain.
