Drawing Nature: Looking Closely, Making Meaning
How do we hold a pencil, make a mark, and communicate ideas without words?
Join Hannah Graney for a contemplative and creative two-hour workshop that explores drawing as a practice of observation, attention and discovery.
Rather than focusing on technical skill or creating a finished artwork, this workshop invites participants to experiment with different approaches to mark-making and to see drawing as a way of slowing down and looking closely. Through a series of guided exercises, we will explore how drawing can help us engage more deeply with the natural world and communicate ideas beyond words.
Using flowers, leaves, seed pods and other natural forms as inspiration, participants will be encouraged to draw with curiosity and greater freedom, moving beyond perfectionism and embracing the creative process. Together, we will investigate how different materials and techniques can capture texture, form, movement and feeling.
Working with charcoal, graphite, pastel and ink, participants will develop new ways of seeing and responding to the natural environment while enjoying the restorative benefits of focused attention and creative exploration.
Suitable for beginners and those with some drawing experience. All materials provided along with light refreshments.
