This 2-hour workshop is suitable for ages 8-12.
In this workshop the children (and accompanying adults) will learn basic gardening skills including sowing seeds, germination and how to plant seedlings in a pot or garden at home.
At the end of the workshop the children will take away their creation to germinate, grow and plant out at home.
The format for this workshop is:
a brief theory presentation (with lots of pictures) about seeds, soil, water, germination and growing seedlings.
a practical, hands-on session where the children seed their own carton with a mixture of flowering and vegetable seeds.
A garden walk, where you get to see vegetables & herbs grown in a variety of garden settings incl a wicking bed, a raised garden bed and ‘in the ground’. During the garden walk we will also discuss the importance of flowers in the garden to attract pollinators and beneficial insects and how to keep plants alive.
We would like this to be an inclusive, fun, positive and stimulating learning environment. Adults will be learning with and alongside the children.
Cost: $33/child and $18/accompanying adult (incl GST) + BF.
Please arrive at 9.45am to allow time for registration and settling in.
More information about this workshop will be sent out via email closer to the event.
