Growing your own vegetables & herbs from seed to plate
Growing your own high-quality organic vegetables and herbs is not difficult once you do some planning and understand the ecology of the garden.
This workshop will show you techniques to create and manage a productive garden, whatever the size.
We will share with you how to design, plan, create resilient and productive systems. The format will be a combination of a PowerPoint presentation, demonstrations and actual visits to the vegetable gardens at The Food Forest.
We will discuss the selection of vegetable species through the seasons, seeds & seedlings, bio-diversity and beneficial insects, pest and disease management, irrigation, mulching, composting and soil fertility.
Our vegetable gardens will show you a variety of garden beds; vegetables and herbs growing in small wicking beds, raised garden beds and ‘in the ground’.
How to adapt to the changes in climate will be high on the program agenda.
Some course notes will be provided. This workshop is aimed at adults.
Afternoon tea is provided.
