Established just two years after the devastating 2020 fires, the Kangaroo Island Rare Plant Garden was created to protect the Island’s many threatened plant species, including some found nowhere else on Earth. Today, the garden is home to 80 endangered plant species. In spring it bursts into colour, with blooms of pink, blue, yellow, red, purple and white—an unforgettable time to visit.
Just 20 km from Kingscote, this 5,000-square-metre haven sits within Cygnet Park Sanctuary, a 310-hectare former sheep-grazing property now transformed and revegetated with around one million native plants. These restored habitats are alive with wildlife, including the endangered Glossy Black Cockatoo.
