RIVER STORIES along Karrawirra Pari (Torrens River)
Karrawirra Pari has always been a place of gathering, of ceremony and deep celebration.
Our journey will take us through the layers of history, connecting to the people, plants and animals that have called this place home.
Perfect for all ages, this participatory outdoor event invites you to walk the banks of Karrawirra Pari, the flowing heart of our city, and learn stories of the past and what is happening now to keep the river healthy.
Stories include:
- Welcome to Country from Drew Kilner with stories about Karrawirra Pari from Kaurna perspective: Red Kangaroo Rock dreaming and the quarry.
- Stories and visions of early settlement life.
- Stories and songs from depression-era in Adelaide.
- Kaurna language and games from Walking Together with Kaurna.
- Ecologist stories about caring for the river in modern times.
Begin at the Rotunda in Elder Park, where you will meet your River Guide and form smaller groups.
We all have a river story. What's yours?
Event organised In collaboration with 'Walking Together with Kaurna'.
