Integrating her fieldwork and studio-based processes, Gardener explores local birds and their song stories in the Onkaparinga region, mapping ecological relationships and connections to habitat.
Through collaboration with the bushland and its inhabitants, the artist builds a layered understanding of place, foregrounding bird narratives and tracing absence where their song has fallen quiet. At the heart of this residency is the aim to foster a deeper connection between birds, community and place, amplifying these other-than-human voices.
