COOTS

The COOTS group, short for Conservation Of Our Threatened Species, is a conservation group affiliated with the Australian Plants Society (SA Region). They're actively involved in various projects focused on protecting and preserving native plant species and ecosystems in South Australia. Some of their key projects include: . Project Pine Point: Protecting and ensuring the long-term survival of the threatened Acacia rhetinocarpa species through weed removal and revegetation with indigenous species. . Project Lands End: Restoring coastal habitats near Cape Jervis by eradicating weeds and replanting native species to stabilize soils and promote biodiversity. . Project Port Parham: Revegetating the foreshore and reintroducing mangroves (Avicennia marina) to the area, which haven't grown there in over 70 years. . Project Hope Valley: Preserving a small remnant patch of native vegetation surrounded by residential homes, containing nationally endangered plant species. The group, led by coordinator Jeff Reid, relies on volunteers to assist with tasks such as: . On-site work: Planting, weed control, and seed collection . Behind-the-scenes tasks: Growing plants, preparing reports, designing signs, and managing finances Their goal is to protect and conserve South Australia's threatened species and ecosystems, and they're always looking for like-minded individuals to join their efforts.
