Join a guided walking tour of Barker Inlet Wetlands with Green Adelaide Coastal Conservation Officer Danny Millbanks.
The Barker Inlet Wetlands are a thriving sanctuary for wildlife and one of Adelaide's most significant urban natural areas. Rich in biodiversity, the wetlands provide vital habitat for more than 130 bird species, dozens of native plant species, and iconic wildlife including the rakali and Murray short-necked turtle. They are also at the forefront of conservation, supporting the return of the locally extinct Yellowish Sedge Skipper butterfly, restoring native host plants for threatened species, and creating healthier ecosystems through innovative habitat restoration projects.
As a place where nature is being actively protected and restored, the Barker Inlet Wetlands offer visitors a unique opportunity to experience the remarkable diversity of South Australia's coastal environment. Experience this important area for urban biodiversity with insights from an expert involved in its conservation.
Meeting spot: Meet at Barker Inlet Wetlands Gate 1 – End of Magazine Road Dry Creek
Meeting time: please meet the group at 9.45am so we can all be ready to start promptly at 10am
There are no toilets located at this site so please visit the nearby petrol station before the event commences
What to wear/bring:
Comfortable walking shoes
Sun protection (hat, suncream, sunglasses)
Raincoat (if wet weather is forecast)
Filled water bottle
Snack/fruit
Backpack or bag to carry loose items
Personal items such as medications eg puffers
Camera and binoculars (optional)
Participants under the age of 18 years must have a registered ticket and be accompanied by an adult.
Cancellation: We reserve the right to cancel if the weather forecast predicts unsafe conditions for our leaders and the public eg severe weather or thunderstorms – we will notify you with as much notice as possible should this happen.
