Her Excellency the Honourable Frances Adamson AC, Governor of South Australia, and Mr Rod Bunten will host their final last Lunch on the Lawns during the Governor’s term at Government House, with two special events marking the occasion.
Visitors are welcome to bring a picnic, chair or rug and enjoy the front lawns.
Garden Tours
10.45am and 11.45am and are hosted by the Friends of the Botanic
Gardens. Bookings are required due to limited numbers and can be made through the Government House website at governor.sa.gov.au
Rose Planting
At 11.45am, following the Garden Tour, the Governor and Mr Bunten, Patron of the Rose Society of South Australia, will plant a rose in the Government House Rose Garden. The yellow Hybrid Tea rose, bred especially for the occasion, will join the 35 roses already planted to commemorate South Australia’s Governors. Following a public competition, it was named Southern Horizon, with people who contributed names invited to attend the planting.
Wollemi Pine Planting
Between 12.45pm and 1.15pm, the Governor will plant a Wollemi Pine on the front lawns as part of Lunch on the Lawns.
The Wollemi Pine is a symbol of resilience. Once thought to be extinct, it was rediscovered in the Blue Mountains in 1994 and is one of the world’s oldest and rarest trees.
“Rod and I have been delighted to open the grounds of Government House to the public during our term and have enjoyed meeting the many people from all walks of life who have taken part in the garden tours and relaxed on the lawns,” Her Excellency said.
