Since its establishment in 2019, the Nature Foundation Artist Residency Program has been a sought-after opportunity for professional artists, offering them the chance to immerse themselves in the pristine beauty of either Witchelina or Hiltaba Nature Reserves for up to two weeks. During their stay at the remote reserves, the artists delve into the heart of nature, drawing inspiration from its myriad forms. Their resulting artwork is a vivid reflection of the environments they've observed, and the connections they draw between nature conservation and nature-based art are genuinely inspiring. The 2024 program featured three artists, each with their unique background and perspective, who are deeply inspired by the various forms of nature. North East Victoria-based Kirrily Anderson is renowned for her mesmerising exploration of the intricacy of nature, with her art spanning the scope of delicate works on paper to captivating murals. Catherine Bourn is a South Australian watercolour artist who immerses herself in the landscape, quietly observing the rhythm and abundance of life amongst the rocks and other seemingly static natural formations. Acclaimed and award-winning artist Josephine Lennon is a Mirning and Antikirinjara woman from Ceduna who produces artworks that address themes of Country and the unique environments, vegetation and animals that inspire her. Nature's Foundations 4 is the fourth exhibition resulting from this Artist Residency Program and is a unique example of how the environment of remote Australia is interpreted and expressed by different artists through various mediums. Nature Foundation is deeply grateful for the generous support of the Helen James Endowment Fund, which has made the Artist Residency Program possible. Exhibition open until 4pm Saturday 15 November.
