The Murray-Darling Basin is Australia's largest river system, playing a vital role in the nation's ecology, economy, and cultural heritage. et decades of neglect, underfunding, and unchecked corporate greed have pushed many species to the brink of extinction and left vital ecosystems in disrepair. Led by conservation councils in each state and territory of the Basin, the Murray Darling Conservation Alliance is a national voice speaking up for Australia’s largest river system. The Murray Darling Basin Plan will be reviewed in 2026.
It’s up to us to ensure our rivers have a voice – and that governments feel pressure to make the big, bold changes needed to secure a healthy, thriving future for Australia’s biggest river system. In this context, it is important that our communities are informed, get engaged and stand up for the Murray River and everything that depends on it.
Craig Wilkins, Co-National Director of the Murray Darling Conservation Alliance, will give a presentation on the current challenges facing our greatest river, followed by a Q&A and interactive discussion.
