In April this year, in a unique and breathtaking installation, and for the first time in Australian arts history, a grand piano was placed in a threatened forest in Takayna, north-west Lutruwita/Tasmania, for pianist Dave McEvoy to compose music and help save Takayna's ancient landscapes from mining and logging.
Now, The South East City Residents Association volunteer group, Green Pakapakanthi, invites you to contemplate the dawn sounds and beauty of the Pakapakanthi/ Victoria Park wetland from within the Miyawaki tiny forest planted by volunteers and to immerse yourself in David’s compositions, created during his time in the threatened Tasmanian forest. Experience a 15-minute listening immersion in the Pakapakanthi Wetlands at dawn, followed by a 30-minute sound journey as Dave plays a grand piano at the nearby St John’s Anglican Church.
Bring a folding chair - or blanket if you prefer to sit on the ground - for the 6am Pakapakanthi wetland listening immersion. The piano sound journey that follows will be indoors at St John's church, after which light refreshments will be served for those that want to stay and chat.
Ticket proceeds will be shared equally between the artist, Trees for Life and The Bob Brown Foundation.
