Learn how you can support wildlife in your own community!
Join us for a hands-on workshop where you’ll discover how to make a basket drey—an artificial nest that provides a safe home for ringtail possums. It’s a fun, inexpensive activity suitable for possum lovers of all ages, and you’ll even have the chance to create your own drey!
Ringtail possums are tree-dwelling, nocturnal animals that sleep during the day in a drey made from sticks, leaves, and bark. Sadly, due to ongoing habitat loss, many are facing their own “housing crisis.” This makes it harder for our carers to return rehabilitated possums to the wild, and sometimes forces possums to seek shelter in roofs or other dark spaces.
Basket dreys provide a safe alternative, mimicking natural dreys while boosting the availability of secure accommodation for possums in local areas.
At the end of the session, you can take home your handmade possum drey for a small fee of $20 (to cover materials), payable after the workshop.
