Slow Weaving Basketry workshop celebrates the principles of slow craft, sustainability, and creativity.
Participants will learn the traditional techniques of basket making using natural organic fibres that they may find in their own gardens or found in nature. Whether you are completely new to weaving or have experience with fibre arts, this workshop offers a rewarding journey into one of humanity's most enduring arts.
This workshop is more than a workshop. Basketry is more than making a container. It is an ancient conversation between maker and every strand of fibre. Every twist and turn has its own character, every weave reflects the character of its maker, every basket is a unique expression of patience, observation, and care.
Each participant will have their own supplied materials in a hand crafted organic bag to take home with their beautiful art piece. Working with natural fibres teaches us to respond rather than control going with the flow of the fibre.
This workshop encourages curiosity, experimentation, and appreciation for handcrafted work that carries a story, a meaning beyond its finished form.
The receptive movement of weaving often comes meditative, allowing participants to experience a sense of calm while becoming fully present in the creative process. Many people find that working with natural fibres provides a welcome respite from busy schedules and constant digital distraction. Sustainability lies at the heart of this workshop.
