Did you know that we have 5 species of beach-nesting birds on our coastlines? The Hooded Plover, Red-capped Plover, Fairy Tern and Sooty and Pied Oystercatcher. All of these beach nesters lay their eggs directly on the sand or on rocky platforms along our coast. Come along and learn about the amazing lives of beach-nesting birds and how to get involved with protecting a threatened species on your local beach. Enjoy an exciting and interactive inside presentation and then we'll head outside to observe some of the birds who live on the beach.
The Sharing our Shores with Coastal Wildlife Program on the Adelaide Metro coast and Fleurieu Peninsula is coordinated through Birdlife Australia’s Sharing our Shores with Coastal Wildlife Project staff and supported by the Green Adelaide Board. It is funded primarily through the Green Adelaide Board with additional support from the Australian Government’s National Landcare Program, administered by the Hills and Fleurieu Landscape Board. It is further supported by BirdLife Australia’s National Beach-nesting Bird team and resources. The work is undertaken in collaboration with Adelaide Metro and Fleurieu coastal councils and relies on dedicated support from trained BirdLife Australia volunteers.
