Architecture Installation in the Courtyard of AGSA by Fallow and Superbloom for Nature Festival 2024.

Inspired by the meandering, tranquil flow of the nearby Karrawirra Parri/River Torrens, Pleasance is an immersive architectural folly conceived of as a collaboration between Superbloom + Fallow. Located in the courtyard sculpture garden of the Art Gallery of South Australia, Pleasance is a living artwork that extends from the marquee into a living artwork, where plants and sculptures frame intimate moments of connection. Designed using unexpected combinations of species, this plant-forward experience invites the viewer to pause and revel in a journey through a rich tactile field of colour, beauty and awe.

Pleasance is brought to AGSA by Nature Festival. This year's Nature Festival theme, "Awe," celebrates the profound sense of wonder that nature inspires. Experience the vastness and mystery of the world, from the magic of dappled sunlight to the miracle of a tiny insect, as the festival showcases South Australia’s deep love of nature through arts, music, Aboriginal culture, food, wine, and adventure for all ages.

About the Creators:

Fallow is a critical spatial practice that focuses on site-sensitive, immersive presentations in public space through sculpture, installation, performance and education.

A merging of the practices of Amber Cronin and Tom Borgas, its field is the ecological space of arts research and practice– a thinking-through-doing that seeks to reframe an experience of reciprocity and connection as a definitive way of being in the world. As a team their experience extends across multiple platforms including studio and gallery based work, temporary and permanent public art, production and creative direction of participatory interventions and performances, and the delivery of public programs and workshops across a range of subjects and demographics.

Super Bloom is an emerging plant practice that brings plant design and expertise for dynamic living beauty and biodiversity in urban spaces, landscapes, gardens, and creative projects. They work across the plant spectrum, from thought leadership and planting design in major landscape and garden projects, to art + plant projects, to supporting landscape and project professionals by bringing the ‘plants’ to clients and teams, training and design workshops. They are passionate about plant literacy, high skill horticulture, management and the communities embrace of diversity and abundant landscapes and gardens.

Super Bloom is defined by an infectious passion and innovation in plants. They see plants and their possibilities from a unique and future forward perspective. Educators and advocates for plants and people, they believe plants are for all.

Pleasance is open during Gallery Hours: September 27th - October 19th
